Beethoven’s description of his ‘little’ 8th Symphony belies its considerable power and energy, but distinguishes it from the more spacious and tranquil ‘Pastoral’ Symphony which gently brings the concert to a close. Between symphonies Marios Papadopoulos plays the brilliant and compelling B flat Concerto.

In his introduction to the programme, the orchestra’s Music Director Marios Papadopoulos says that it is the energy in Beethoven’s music which captures his attention, and this was certainly conveyed in the Oxford Philomusica’s performance of the piece.
