Dohnányi conducts Schumann

Beethoven’s favourite of all Mozart’s piano concertos, the brooding, dusky colours of his Concerto No. 20 sit alongside Schumann’s Second Symphony. Barely recovered from a series of emotional breakdowns, Schumann encrypted the finale of his symphony with a dedication to his wife, Clara, containing within it a reference to the final song of Beethoven’s song cycle, To the Distant Beloved.
