Emerson String Quartet

The multiple award-winning Emerson Quartet makes a welcome return to Southbank Centre.

They perform three classic works for string quartet.

Opening with one of Haydn's game-changing quartets, which helped establish the string quartet we know today, Ravel's ever-popular work follows - shifting between playful moments and serene melodies. The concert ends in Beethoven's magnus opus. One of the last pieces he ever wrote, a thrilling journey into the heart of the human psyche.

The Emerson String Quartet played Haydn with poised humour, and brought warmth and strength to Ravel. Their Beethoven had sadness, rage, violence and profound depth.
