Green-clawed demons, Welsh folksongs, Basque sunshine and Roman legions: the 20th century was when classical music exploded into Technicolor. In Italy, France, Russia and Britain, four great composers throw caution to the wind in four gloriously tuneful orchestral showpieces. Peter Oundjian makes it all spring to life – and Scotland’s own, incomparable Steven Osborne brings all his signature flair to Ravel’s Spanish holiday of a piano concerto.

Peter Oundjian (Conductor)

Toronto-born conductor Peter Oundjian was an instrumental figure in the rebirth of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra as Music Director. Oundjian was Principal Guest Conductor of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra from 2006 to 2010 and has served as a visiting professor at the Yale School of Music since 1981.

Steven Osborne (Piano)

Steven Osborne is one of Britain’s foremost musicians, renowned for his idiomatic approach to a wide variety of repertoire from the mainstream classical works of Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms to the rarefied worlds of Messiaen, Tippett and Britten. He has won numerous awards and prizes including the 2009 Gramophone Award for his recording of Britten’s works for piano and orchestra, as well as first prize at both the Naumburg International Competition (New York) and Clara Haskil Competition.
