Still waters run deep. Gabriel Faure was a quiet man, and there’s no anger or fury in his haunting Requiem – just some of the most beautiful choral music ever written, masking a world of heartfelt emotion. Conducted by Elim Chan, it’s a lovely showcase for our superb Junior Chorus, while Shostakovich’s brooding Second Cello Concerto will reveal a new side of Sheku Kanneh-Mason’s extraordinary talent. Grażyna Bacewicz’s brilliant, bracing Divertimento launches the evening in a burst of energy.

The performance of Bacewicz’s Divertimento is made possible with funding from the ABO Trust’s Sirens programme, a ten-year initiative to support the performance and promotion of music by historical women composers, and the Ambache Charitable Trust, which raises the profile of music by women.
