The British-German soprano Sarah Wegener and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under the direction of its chief conductor Mariss Jansons embark on a journey into the song universe of Richard Strauss. The second part of the concert features Brahm's 4th symphony.
The program includes six songs by Richard Strauss, who could write so incomparably for high female voices. Some of the most beautiful melodies from Strauss' precious song treasure, sometimes raucous with hymns, sometimes tenderly dreamy, sometimes tragically fanned, will sound. The selection ends with the well-known song "Morgen" - this is part of the small cycle that Strauss presented to his wife, the soprano Pauline de Ahna, in 1894 as a wedding gift. Twenty years after the "Sinfonia domestica" in 1924, at the age of sixty, he once again put his married and family life on the scoop - in the bourgeois comedy "Intermezzo". The four symphonic interludes from it, charming genre pieces between turbulent and idyllic stage situations, puts Jansons at the beginning of his program. And at the end he puts the monumental Fourth Symphony by Johannes Brahms, in which he drew the sum of his works and which he crowned with a passacaglia of almost devastating violence.
