With Four Hands

Franz Schubert wrote the very first composition in his catalogue of works, the three-movement “Fantasy for four-handed piano” in G major, at the tender age of 13. Even in the year of his death, 1828, he composed important works for this genre, including the multi-layered “Fantasy in F minor” and the “Allegro in A minor”, known as “Lebensstürme” (Storms of Life). At his Schubertiades, Schubert himself sat at the piano with a friend to perform his cheerful marches and polonaises, as well as his complex fantasies, in private salons. In Klosters, Sir András Schiff will join award-winning pianist Chloe Jiyeong Mun in performing this eclectic and rarely heard repertoire. “Schubert’s music is the most human I know – and the most personal,” says Schiff. This reveals his deep personal connection to Schubert, which will certainly become evident in the four-handed performance.
