After marrying the Vicomte de Grandval in 1851, Clémence de Reiset continued to pursue her musical activities. Indeed, she decided to take them even more seriously, building on her initial training by taking composition lessons from Camille Saint-Saëns, a young prodigy seven years her junior who was just sixteen years old at the time. The two artists remained close until Clémence’s death in 1907, as evidenced by their extensive correspondence, which reveals the mutual support and advice they offered each other. Trio Pantoum performs a piano trio by each of these composers – Grandval’s No. 2 of 1854, and No. 2, Op. 92, of 1892, by Saint-Saëns – thus enabling us to appreciate the aesthetic similarities between the works of these two friends.
