Opening the Sheffield International Concert Season with a bang, the Hallé Orchestra returns with its widely-acclaimed Principal Conductor, Kahchun Wong, now in his third season at the helm. The concert begins with Liszt’s symphonic poem, Les préludes, which erupts into a sumptuous melody after its tentative opening, and closes with Stravinsky’s dazzling Firebird Suite, a work alive with colour, rhythmic drive and fairy-tale melodrama. To complete this brilliant programme, Sir Stephen Hough joins our resident orchestra for Beethoven’s majestic “Emperor” Piano Concerto, widely considered by many fans to be his best with its pure, dreamy second movement and utterly joyous finale.
