Leading contemporary composer Cassandra Miller will present a new national premiere, co-commissioned by L’Auditori, featuring rhythmic and harmonious patterns. In contrast, but sharing the same emotional immediacy – not at all easy to explain, always somewhat mysterious – we will listen to Wolfgang A. Mozart’s final contribution to the genre that was his favourite way to explore his innermost feelings.

The Piano and Orchestra Concerto No. 27 showcases a balanced dialogue between soloists and orchestras, featuring clear melodies and classical rhythms, including a slow and enchantingly simple movement which will bring out all of pianist Imogen Cooper’s strengths. In the second part, the OBC will take centre stage under the baton of Ludovic Morlot to perform Sergei Prokofiev’s great Fifth Symphony of 1944. This powerful work combines the structural solidity of classicism with the expressiveness of the 20th century: incisive rhythms and occasionally striking harmonies – not to mention some lyrical passages – reflect the historical context and the search for an original voice, without losing sight of tradition.
