Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen / Ruth Reinhardt

During the Easter season, the Passion story invites a moment of reflection. With Ruth Reinhardt at the helm and the young soloists of the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel by her side, the Flanders Symphony Orchestra explores dualities such as suffering and redemption, light and darkness.

The programme opens with Haydn’s Symphony No. 49, nicknamed La Passione, from his Sturm und Drang period. In keeping with this literary movement, Haydn sought greater depth, expression, and emotional intensity during these years.

Next, Béla Bartók transports us to a magical, nocturnal atmosphere. Folk rhythms alternate with strict structures such as the Fibonacci sequence. The lighting design by Robbrecht & Daem architects reveals the interplay of darkness and light, turning the music into a unique experience.
