Ivor Setterfield and Barts Chamber Choir help you get into the festive spirit with this wonderful evening of seasonal favourites both traditional and contemporary.
Barts Chamber Choir is an offshoot of Barts Choir. Barts Choir was founded by a group of nurses at St Bartholomew's Hospital in 1965. It has since evolved into one of London's most popular performance groups and possibly its largest choir, with approximately 350 regular singers. It is unauditioned, and skill levels range from nervous beginners to top-class singers. It performs three large-scale concerts each year in venues such as the Royal Albert Hall under its musical director Ivor Setterfield. Over its 42 years, the choir has helped a wide range of charities to raise funds through its concerts. Barts Chamber Choir was formed in 2004 in order to give selected members of Barts Choir, independently of the main concert programme, the opportunity to sing a challenging repertoire in more intimate venues. Following its inaugural performance of Mozart's Requiem at St Martin-in-the- Fields and subsequently at the Rudolfinum in Prague, it has continued to work with Ivor Setterfield in the presentation of a varied programme of chamber music, including Rachmaninov Vespers, Britten's Ceremony of Carols, Vivaldi Gloria, and Bach's St John Passion.
Ivor Setterfield is founder and musical director of the Trafalgar Sinfonia (formerly the New London Soloists Orchestra), an orchestra comprising some of London's most talented young musicians. Ivor has conducted many orchestras including Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, the City of London Sinfonia, the London Mozart Players and the Hanover Band and regularly performs at major London venues including the Royal Albert Hall, the South Bank, the Barbican and St Martin-in-the-Fields. He has also conducted at venues across Europe, most extensively throughout Italy and France. Ivor is also Musical Director of Barts Choir, one of the City of London's largest cultural organisations and has featured in several documentary programmes for Channel Five and for the BBC, most recently Classic Goldie (2009).
