This time around, Bell’s chosen a programme that plays to his profoundest qualities, whether the beauty of Beethoven or the electrically charged virtuosity of Prokofiev.
So while any London recital from Bell is something of a special occasion, this latest collaboration with his regular recital-partner, pianist Sam Haywood, is perfectly gauged to display his artistic strength in depth – with Grieg’s underrated Second Sonata serving as a lovely bonus at the evening’s heart. ‘Chamber music is my greatest love,’ says Bell, and if previous recitals are any guide, this should be treasurable.
