«They sound so violinistic», Dmitri Shostakovich enthused about his own 24 Piano Preludes, Op. 34. «Violinistic»? Yes, because Dmitri Zyganov, first violinist of the Beethoven Quartet and a good friend of Shostakovich, arranged 19 of these entertaining gems for violin and piano. In 2000, composer Lera Auerbach completed the cycle, which will be performed in its entirety in Grafenegg for the first time in Austria. Sergei Dogadin and Daniil Trifonov, both former winners of the Tchaikovsky Competition, have long been among the most accomplished performers of our time. They will begin their chamber concert with Sergei Prokofiev’s Violin Sonata No. 1, dedicated to David Oistrakh and premiered by him and Lev Oborin in 1946, in which the mood of the time of its creation is captured in music in a manner that is as sombre as it is vivid.
