Not all of his decisions necessarily work, but Igor Levit’s playing sings in piano sonatas that range from the expansive Op.7 to an unstoppable Les Adieux.

Maurizio Pollini demonstrated why people still flock to hear him perform in sonatas by Beethoven and miniatures by Schoenberg.

Jean-Efflam Bavouzet impresses in Gallic repertoire, but his Beethoven took longer to win our reviewer around.

No wonder Jayson Gillham looked pleased to be back on stage at Birmingham Town Hall. It must have brought back some happy memories, as it was here that he won first prize in the 2011 Brant International Piano Competition. In the intervening couple of years, he’s built up an inspiring CV.
