Berenice at the Linbury: sung à la Handel, acted à la Gilbert and Sullivan

Visual eye candy, excellent singing and superb Handelian playing by Laurence Cummings and the London Handel Orchestra are marred by poor diction and limited acting expressivity.

A dusty curio: Handel's Berenice, regina d'Egitto

Von Charlotte Valori, 17. März 2016

A strong cast and fine playing from La Nuova Musica gives Handel's Berenice a reasonably fair outing, but its original plot weaknesses constrain this opera from being anything more than a curio for the Handel connoisseur.
