One of the world’s liveliest new period-instrument orchestras joins a world-class cast in Handel’s sumptuous oriental opera Tamerlano.
‘We have the guts!’ declare the members of Il Pomo d’Oro ‘We love big opera, golden apples and gut strings’. And Baroque opera doesn’t come much bigger than Handel’s 1724 Turkish spectacular Tamerlano. This exuberant young ensemble joins a stellar team of international soloists.
The stunning young Spanish countertenor Xavier Sabatasings the flamboyant title role, while as Bajazet, John Mark Ainsley takes one of the biggest tenor roles in all Baroque opera. Julia Lezhneva and Ruxandra Donose also star, and with Maxim Emelyanychev conducting this looks set to generate exactly the sort of dramatic chemistry for which Il Pomo d’Oro is already renowned.
