Vladimir Jurowski conducts the London Philharmonic Orchestra in works by four Russian composers whose UK premieres were all unveiled at the Proms. 

Rimsky-Korsakov literally wrote the book on orchestration. In this splendid LPO concert tracing Stravinsky’s music, Vladimir Jurowski focused on the composer’s debt to his friend and mentor.

Blistering Shostakovich crushed Rachmaninov in this uneven pairing, the London Philharmonic’s latest exploration into “Rachmaninoff: Inside out”. 

Like a rash over London’s concert halls, Rachmaninov (or Rachmaninoff if you prefer) is everywhere this season – not that I’m complaining.
