Pollini's love for Chopin and Debussy was evident throughout an intimate recital as part of the Southbank Centre's in the International Piano Series.

Russian pianist Anna Tsybuleva, winner of the 2015 Leeds International Piano Competition, made her Wigmore Hall debut in a programme of fantasy-like works spanning 300 years of music history.

“Wigmore Hall is flooded now!” confessed Philippe Cassard. It was Claude Debussy who left the tap running, with every form of precipitation – rain, snow, fog – pouring from the Steinway's keyboard, trickling from fountain, springing from river beds. 

Alexei Lubimov’s recent late-night recital at the Mostly Mozart Festival alternated rippling, dappled notes of Debussy with the playful simplicity of Satie’s music, contrasting vivid Debussyste images with the static yet aimless wandering of Satie’s rarely-performed piano works.

In a quiet backstreet just a couple of minutes’ walk from South Kensington underground station stands the Institut Français du Royaume-Uni. It is one branch of a global network that exists to promote cross-cultural dialogue and to showcase the best of French culture, be that through food, media, or music.

Hong Kong has had the good fortune to present Krystian Zimerman several times in recent years, thanks to presenters at the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. Those who have been following Zimerman’s concert engagements will realize much of his activities today are focused in Europe and Asia.

In an exhilarating finale, Italian pianist Maurizio Pollini’s fascinating series at the Royal Festival Hall, ‘The Pollini Project’, closed with a concert focusing on the music of Chopin, Debussy and Boulez. This was meant to be the penultimate concert in the series, but was rescheduled due to ill health.
