Making their long-awaited debut in Japan, the Elias String Quartet embarks on the complete Beethoven cycle with a contrasting programme of early and late quartets.

"Carta Blanca" brings John Adams and the Attacca Quartet to Madrid. John's Book of Alleged Dances and String Quartet are played, alongside Beethoven's String Quartet in F major, Op.18 no.1.

Oxford’s Coffee Concerts are a perfect recipe for a slow-paced morning. Preceded by complimentary coffee in a nearby café or pub, the series brings chamber music to the historic Holywell Music Room and finishes in time to let the audience find a spot for Sunday lunch.

Continuing their Beethoven cycle, the Belcea Quartet gave us another selection spanning Beethoven’s string quartet writing, allowing us to see how Beethoven transformed the medium from its elegant beginnings through to the complexity and expressiveness of his final works.

The concert featured a chamber group based in the West Country, the Ardeton Ensemble. Sarah Eales and Rebecca Harte, violins, Rachel Johnson, viola and Dury Loveridge, cello, with guest pianist Stephen Meakins, gave a balanced and enthusiastically received programme of works by three major composers.Beethoven’s first completed string quartet opened the evening.
