Liceu audiences will have a new chance to enjoy Paco Azorín's production of this masterpiece by Giacomo Puccini, the composer from Lucca, in which hatred, love, passion, violence and religion come together.
To live for art and to die for love: these are the two themes of Tosca, a work that evokes the perfect, emotion-charged triangle formed by Cavaradossi, Tosca and Scarpia in the tumultuous period of Napoleon's occupation of Rome. “My option is not to create a monumental epic but to put the singers in the limelight by bringing them closer to the audience at all times”: set designer and stage director Paco Azorín made this comment on his production, which is scrupulously faithful to the original and shows how thoroughly valid and modern Puccini's opera is.
Two brilliant casts have been selected for this Tosca, one of the most famous and widely performed of Italian operas. John Fiore will be conducting.
