Creative connections in Baden: Martin Helmchen pays debt to Schumann’s genius

The CBSO gives a vivid account of Bruckner’s Ninth Symphony, its structural and emotional convolution laid bare, and an athletic account of Mozart’s Piano Concerto no. 26 featuring Martin Helmchen. 

Jurowski and Martin Helmchen underline how much Mozart's Piano Concerto no. 25 in C major looks forward to the “Jupiter” Symphony and to Beethoven. 

The whole performance, which drew thematic parallels between Mozart and Bruckner, was a master class in eliciting more with less.
