In the week of remembrance, Sheku Kanneh-Mason played Elgar’s Cello Concerto with a level of British reverence, while Andrew Manze concluded with some exquisite Ravel.

If you're a flute trio, you need to be innovative. And Tempest Flute Trio certainly are: they presented an impressive array of works at the Forge in Camden last night, ranging from innovative arrangements to commissions, and performing with a sense of ensemble which would have been remarkable for any grouping of instruments.

In this intensely Romantic programme, the choice of music pointed to the ways in which art and life can be closely intertwined, from Wagner's Idyll to celebrate the birth of his son (also called Siegfried), to Joachim's fingerprints in the Brahms concerto or Strauss's tone poem on Death and Transfiguration.
