A recital of two halves for the Moscow-born pianist in her long overdue Carnegie Hall debut.

Rachmaninov as composer is still on his reputational journey, which proceeds at different rates for different works and genres.

Evgeny Kissin gave a performance of immense power, energy and musical intellect in Beethoven's monumental Hammerklavier and a selection of Rachmaninov Preludes.

Steven Osborne consults the audience on the choice of encore following a fine performance of Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto no. 2, part of an all Russian programme which the CBSO played with zealous committment.

In performing the Vespers in the acoustically wonderful Milton Court, Jeffrey Skidmore took the imaginative decision to interleaving its movements with solo piano works, played by Steven Osborne. It proved inspirational programming.

Steven Osborne brought a distinctive personal voice to Mussorgsky's ever-popular Pictures at an Exhibition and concentration, eloquence and delicacy to a selection of Rachmaninov's Études-Tableaux.

Dans un récital-surprise fait d'une quantité de petites pièces diverses reliées entre elles par des rapports logiques de tonalité, le pianiste polonais a étonné et fait des miracles.
