Leonard holds a postgraduate diploma in performance (flute) from the Royal College of Music, London, as well as a master’s degree in flute performance from Trinity College of Music, London. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in London and he works as a consultant ophthalmologist and free-lance musician in South Africa. Leonard is the director of the Heydeburg Chamber Orchestra in Cape Town and he also conducts and regularly performs with the George Kamarata Chamber Orchestra in the Southern Cape. He has commissioned and performed several new works for flute and orchestra.
