The organ matinee concert series – featuring some of Sweden’s finest organists – has grown into a much-loved tradition. The organ at Konserthuset Stockholm, with its magnificent façade, is one of the most renowned in Europe – and with 6,100 pipes, also one of the largest.
Starting in autumn 2024, Robert Bennesh is organist and choral director at Uppsala Cathedral. He previously served as cathedral organist at Lund Cathedral, where he was responsible for the well-established Saturday concert series for many years. He regularly appears as a soloist and has a strong interest in contemporary music, which has led to numerous commissions and premieres.
For this concert, he presents music by English composer Alfred Hollins and American composer Horatio Parker – known not only for his organ works but also for having taught composer Charles Ives at Yale University, where Robert Bennesh himself also studied.
The programme also includes Astronomical by English composer Judith Bingham – a work commissioned and premiered by Bennesh in celebration of the 900th anniversary of Lund Cathedral in 2023. The title refers to the church’s famous astronomical clock from 1425.
