Short-circuit sound ecology

Developed with ethnomusicology and military technology, the practice of field recording has long been associated with the sonic exploration of distant lands. It has brought isolated peoples closer to us and transformed the most inaccessible environments (tropical forests, ocean depths) into fascinating soundscapes. It has also given rise to a new art-science discipline, sonic ecology, which renews our understanding of the environment through listening, on much closer scales.
