Handel’s Radamisto, premiered in London in 1720 and rearranged a few months later for the star castrato Senesino, it tells of the Armenian king Tiridate who, driven by a thirst for power, destroys everything around him. Between political intrigues and private conflicts, Radamisto fights for his love for Zenobia, while steadfastness, betrayal and despair drive the characters into ever more extreme situations. In this opera we encounter men who reveal themselves as intrepid heroes, unscrupulous rulers or vulnerable lovers – the gripping plot is driven by these antitheses. Max Emanuel Cenčić plays the title role accompanied by the Wrocław Baroque Orchestra under the baton of Benjamin Bayl – a gala performance full of Baroque brilliance and breathtaking coloratura skills that brings out the full drama and emotional depth of Handel’s rearranged version.
