Founded by Nicholas Daniel and colleagues from the magnificent Britten Sinfonia, the Britten Oboe Quartet is known for its imaginative programming and music making informed by mutual empathy and understanding. Its debut recording included what the Guardian greeted as ‘a wonderfully relaxed and refined account’ of Mozart’s Oboe Quartet K370 and ‘a strikingly mysterious one’ of Britten’s early Phantasy, works set in company for this lunchtime programme with Jacqueline Shave’s haunting treatment of traditional tunes and a new work by Huw Watkins.
