In 1000 Songs of the Kazakh People, the Kazakh violinist and Concertgebouw guest creator Aisha Orazbayeva, together with her compatriot Samrattama and Ictus, unfurls a unique sonic universe of Kazakh music from the early 19th century to the present day. Archival recordings of folk songs and their Soviet interpretations, Kazakh Soviet pop, and Orazbayeva’s reworkings of this repertoire are presented alongside her own compositions. The starting point is the quest to reconnect with the original melodies and the desire to share their universal quality with the whole world.
