| James McVinnie | Orgue |
| Maki Namekawa | Piano |
Both solo performers have deep connections with Glass’ music. Pianist Maki Namekawa has worked closely with the composer for many years, while organist James McVinnie is a leading champion of his music for keyboards.
Namekawa moves from the hypnotic unfolding of Distant Figure to the dream-like final Etude No.20, alongside the lyrical simplicity of ‘The Poet Acts’ from Glass’ film score The Hours.
On the majestic Royal Festival Hall organ, Glass’ musical processes take on a different scale. Dance No.4, created as part of Glass’ landmark collaboration with choreographer Lucinda Childs, builds momentum through insistent rhythmic patterns. Mad Rush brings the evening to an unforgettable close. Written to mark the Dalai Lama’s first public address in New York, it moves between serene contemplation and surging motion.
From intimate piano writing to the bold colours of the organ, simplicity becomes something rich, shifting and deeply expressive.
