L. Delibes' ballet Coppélia is one of the most popular works in Lithuania, because it was exactly this masterpiece that marked the beginning of professional ballet in Lithuania with its premiere on 4 December 1925. Therefore, we promise to celebrate this exceptionally significant 100th anniversary of Lithuanian ballet throughout the 2025–2026 season!
Like many popular works, over the years Coppélia has been staged by various choreographers, each time presenting their own unique versions and revisions. Transforming from comedy to tragedy, sometimes approaching Hoffmann's The Sandman, sometimes moving away from it – this ballet is still one of the most frequently staged in the world. Three acts of magic, comic confusion arising from mistaken identity, impetuous romanticism, impressive productions – these same aspects have been continuously captivating the audience for 140 years. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Lithuanian ballet, Coppélia shall be presented on our stage by Martynas Rimeikis, one of the most famous Lithuanian choreographers of our time.
