On the program: Clarice Assad’s Canções da America, inspired by South American rhythms and Indigenous traditions; Carlos Simon’s Giants, honoring five iconic Black Americans; Valerie Coleman’s Freedmen of the Five Civilized Tribes, exploring Black Indigenous heritage; and selections from Joan Tower’s Copland-inspired Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman.
