The world-renowned French period-instrument orchestra and vocal ensemble Les Arts Florissants has been hailed as a pioneer in reviving works by Baroque composers from Charpentier to Rameau. They join us in their first 92NY appearance, performing under the direction of co-musical directors William Christie – who founded the ensemble in the late 1970s – and Paul Agnew. On the program: music that has become a hallmark – the dramatic and sensuous madrigals of Monteverdi. Hear their glorious artistry in select madrigals, including the haunting and beloved soprano solo “Lamento della Ninfa” (Book 8), the sensual *Si ch’io vorrei morire” (Book 4), and more, as they bring color and vitality to 400-year-old jewels.
