Orchestra Giovanile Luigi Cherubini & Rudolf Buchbinder

Curiosity, spontaneity and humour, alongside talent, hard work and luck, are the three ingredients that make a long, fulfilling life as a musician possible in the first place. Rudolf Buchbinder continues to embody all of these qualities even in the eighth decade of his career. For the closing concert of this year’s festival, he invited Riccardo Muti and the Orchestra Giovanile Luigi Cherubini – founded by Muti in 2004 – to perform alongside the great maestro from Naples and his excellent youth orchestra. Riccardo Muti is now unable to conduct the concert at short notice due to a necessary medical procedure. Rudolf Buchbinder: ‘My friend Riccardo Muti’s withdrawal fills me with great regret. I wish him a speedy and full recovery from the bottom of my heart. At the same time, I am very grateful to him for expressly supporting and facilitating the necessary programme change.’ Rudolf Buchbinder will instead conduct the concert alone from the piano and will now perform, following the overture to Cimarosa’s «Il matrimonio segreto», Mozart’s Piano Concerto in C major, K. 467, in the first half of the concert, and, after the interval, the Piano Concerto in D minor, K. 466.

Riccardo Muti has had to cancel his conducting of the closing concert of this year’s Grafenegg Festival on 6 September. On medical advice, he will undergo a necessary medical procedure.
