An origami opera for young and old

Katharina and Martin are only too happy to roll up their sleeves and spend every day working alongside their parents in the salt mine, high up in the mountains. When their father suffers an injury, they decide to go in search of the magic flower of life that might heal him. On their journey, they encounter extraordinary characters like the mysterious witch Frau Perchta, a helpful cave bear and a fearsome Alpine dragon. Will they find the flower of life before it is too late?

Salt-ice is an enchanting combination of music, dance, videography and… origami. From costumes to stage sets, the fairytale landscapes are brought to life by hand-folded, kinetic and pop-up paper art. Inspired by this minimalist aesthetic, Ruben Zahra wrote a highly imaginative children’s opera, which whisks the whole family off to a land of icy mountains, vast salt flats, frozen clouds and glistening ice palaces.
