About the competition

This piano competition was conceived by local Kagawans with a passion for music and a dream of creating an event that would inspire young musicians seeking careers on the international stage. To realize this dream, a committee of like-minded people was formed in 2003, and the first Takamatsu International Piano Competition was held in March 2006.

Competition rounds

All rounds of the competition take place at the Main Hall of Sunport Hall Takamatsu and are open to the public.

Application process

Applications can only be made online. Enter the required information in the entry sheet on the official website (https://form.tipc.jp/?lang=en) and upload the following data  ( (A)‐(C) ). The contents of the data files can be modified/updated during the application period.

(A)A performance video file of the repertoire for the Preliminary Selection (file format must be MP4, AVI, MOV or WMV) 

(B)An image file of a recent glossy color photograph (* Front facing, chest up / Resolution of 300 dpi or more recommended.)
* The photo will be used for the official competition program and other media purposes. 

(C)A PDF file of a passport or an official document as evidence of the applicantʼs name, nationality, and date of birth.

Competition process

The preliminary selection of all applications will take place in September 2025 through video screenings. Applicants will be notified of the results by November 5, 2025. The competition rounds will be held in Takamatsu, Japan, in February 2026, where participants will compete for five major prizes, along with additional special awards. These will be presented at the awards ceremony on February 22, 2026. 

In addition to the ¥3,000,000 prize, the first-place winner will also receive performance opportunities with both Japanese and international orchestras, as well as recitals at prestigious concert halls in Japan and abroad. 

Following the awards ceremony, the public is invited to enjoy a closing concert featuring all prizewinners on February 23, 2026.

※The TIPC Organizing Committee will bear all the costs of rewards, traveling, and accommodation necessary for the concerts/recitals mentioned above. 
※The performance fee will be ¥200,000. 
※The first-prize winner is obliged to perform the concerts/recitals mentioned above. 
※The first-prized winner must notify the TIPC Office of any other performance in Japan before the performances in Kagawa.
Travel support

【Contestants who reside overseas】

  • 100% of travel support.
    Japanese contestants living overseas need to submit the necessary document such as Certificate of Residence.

【Contestants who reside in Japan】

  • Contestants who reside in Japan are not subject to financial support for travel expenses.
  • ※ As needed, proper transportation will be provided to the contestants between the competition/practice venues and the accommodation (which was specified by the organizer) free of charge. All other transportation costs will be borne by the contestants.
Accommodation support

Accommodation will be provided to the contestants from three days prior to the start of the competition (February 7 (Sat), 2026) to the dates below. The accommodation cost (including breakfast) will be borne by the TIPC Office only for the accommodation designated by the TIPC Office. All other expenses incurred during the period of stay, including meals, communications, etc., will be covered by the contestants.

● Contestants in Round 1: until the next morning of the day when Round 1 ends. 
● Contestants in Round 2: until the next morning of the day when Round 2 ends. 
● Contestants in Round 3: until the next morning of the day when Round 3 ends. 
● Finalists: until the next morning of the day of Prizewinners' Concert.
