This Advent matinee combines great Romantic expressiveness with festive colour. The first part centres on Antonín Dvořák’s Cello Concerto – one of the most important works in the cello repertoire, expansive, lyrical, passionate and richly orchestral.
Kian Soltani is a soloist who has long been part of the prominent family of artists associated with the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester. His warm tone and natural musicality meet a work in which virtuosity is never an end in itself, but always grows out of song, memory and feeling.
After the interval, Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite leads into a fairytale Christmas world. Toys, sweets and dancing figures of fantasy come to life – from the little overture and the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy to the Waltz of the Flowers.
On the podium is Aivis Greters, a rising conductor of the younger generation. This matinee brings together Late Romantic richness, soloistic excellence and vivid sound worlds for the Advent season.
