Angélique Kidjo / Metropole Orkest

After their enchanting concert with Arooj Aftab in November 2025, the Metropole Orkest returns to DE SINGEL. For this special collaboration, the orchestra joins forces with Angélique Kidjo, the Beninese singer, songwriter, and activist who has been one of the most influential voices in African music for over four decades. With her powerful voice and sparkling energy, Kidjo has built an impressive international career.

A five-time Grammy Award winner and laureate of the Polar Music Prize 2023, Kidjo is renowned for her unique musical language, in which West African traditions merge with influences from funk, jazz, and rock. Her music effortlessly traverses cultures and continents.

Alongside her artistic work, Kidjo has long been an advocate for social causes such as girls’ education, women’s rights, and cultural exchange. With the Metropole Orkest, her repertoire takes on a new orchestral dimension.
