Boris Giltburg, hailed by The Telegraph for the ‘panache and personality’ of his Prokofiev playing, combines three works all created from combining small fragments. He opens with the 20 Visions fugitives, then steps from Prokofiev’s mesmerising miniatures into the sequence of illustrative pieces that form Carnaval, Robert Schumann’s evocation of characters at a masked ball. Musorgsky’s mighty keyboard composition takes a musical tour around paintings by Viktor Hartmann, recalling vivid impressions left by a posthumous exhibition of the artist’s work.
