Ben Goldscheider has garnered international acclaim as the most exciting young horn player Britain has produced in a generation. Richard Strauss and Felix Mendelssohn were two of music’s greatest child prodigies, and Strauss’s Horn Concerto No. 1 was written when the composer was just 18, and has remained a lynchpin of the horn repertoire ever since, heard hear alongside the beguiling Nocturne by his uncle, Franz Strauss. Mendelssohn’s magical musical depiction of the Little Mermaid myth is once of his most evocative and colourful scores, and the perfect upbeat to his Fourth Symphony, the Italian, a work as beloved and evergreen as any in the repertoire.
