The Chamber Orchestra of Europe is celebrating its 30th anniversary with two years of Brahms under Bernard Haitink, and brings a pair of concertos and a pair of symphonies to the Proms.
Haitink describes the COE as ‘a group of exceptionally talented musicians. As true chamber musicians, they are used to listening to each other, without being exclusively focused on the conductor. This matches exactly the idea I have of conducting an orchestra.’ After Brahms’s relatively mellow Third Symphony, one of the world’s best-loved pianists performs a work boiling over with youthful passions.
