Pianists Imogen Cooper and Paul Lewis return for
the final Late Night Prom of the festival. Cooper
plays Schubert’s late, great Piano Sonata in C minor,
its scherzo still informed by the Rossinian joie de vivre
of the early symphonies, the surrounding movements
infused with the sorrow and resignation of the
song-cycles Winterreise and Schwanengesang.
Published posthumously, the symphonically
conceived ‘Grand Duo’ dates from the summer of
1824, when the composer was engaged as music
master to Marie and Caroline Esterházy on the
family’s Slovakian estate.Tickets £18 - £24.
