The Sounds that Changed America: the Barbican begins a year-long festival with an electrifying Steve Reich retrospective.
Steve Reich’s music changed the way we hear our world. In his 80th birthday year, Britten Sinfonia launches the festivities with the European premiere of Reich’s Pulse: just part of a whole evening devoted to his music for electric ensemble.
Three Tales, Nagoya Guitars, Electric Counterpoint: these works are already classics. As the Barbican begins its tributes to Reich and his contemporaries Philip Glass and John Adams with a weekend of dedicated events, this concert brings together dedicated performers and Beryl Korot’s visuals to present an overview of Reich at his most innovative, uncompromising and prophetic.
