Percussionist Colin Currie and his ensemble return with an all-Reich programme to celebrate the composer’s 80th birthday.
They perform the composer’s most popular work, Music for 18 Musicians, a hypnotic piece of pulsing invention that bathes the listener in waves of sound.
There’s also a rare chance to hear Reich’s captivating Quartet for 2 vibraphones and 2 pianos. A mesmerising new work commissioned by Southbank Centre especially for Currie, it received 'a hero’s reception' (The Guardian) at its premiere last season and was welcomed by The Sunday Times as ‘Pure minimalistic happiness... a notion of musical bliss.'
