Little Bear, Little Tiger, and Tiger Duck leave their dull, waste-filled home to search for the mysterious, dreamlike land of Panama. Along the way, they face dangers and discover a world of colour, friendship, courage, and adventure. But what if the Panama they are searching for is closer than they ever imagined?
The ballet for children of all ages, How Beautiful Panama Is!, is based on Janosch’s much-loved book, and combines dance, music, visual art, and storytelling to explore universal themes of friendship, happiness, discovery, and finding beauty in everyday life. The story follows Little Bear, Little Tiger, and Tiger Duck on an adventurous journey filled with unexpected discoveries and encounters. Choreographer Daria Verovka, composer Silvija Miliūnaitė, librettist Sondra Simana, and the creative team create a colourful and imaginative world where every artistic element contributes to the story. The set incorporates recycled plastic objects, encouraging reflection on responsible consumption and the future of the planet, while the music, costumes, and lighting add warmth and magic. Originally published in 1978, Janosch’s book became a beloved German classic and won the German Youth Literature Prize. Klaipeda State Music Theatre’s performance was nominated for Best Children’s and Youth Performance at the 2026 Golden Stage Cross Awards in Lithuania, while costume designer Sandra Straukaitė received an award for her work.
