Russell Maliphant and his dancers presented Still / Current, an evening of solos, duets and trios at Artsdepot in north London this past Wednesday. Though working with what are clearly excellent dancers, all of the pieces were mediated by the lighting. The lighting design was by Maliphant’s long-time collaborator Michael Hulls.

With the new production Unto the Breach, Al Zaytouna Dance Theatre has surely succeeded in its mission of raising awareness of the Palestinian cause. It at least worked for me, as during the break I felt the urge to quickly connect to the Internet and refresh my knowledge of the Gaza strip (and most probably, I was not the only one).
