Curated by Marcelino Sambé, Black History Month Draft Works at the Clore Studio gifted us an intriguing mix of ideas and styles providing food for thought as well as theatrical interest.

A welcome development during the current refurbishment of the Royal Opera House, perhaps to compensate for the temporary absence of the Linbury Studio Theatre, downstairs, is the recent opening up of the Clore Studio Upstairs to present brief works ahead of main stage production.

Two fast-emerging dance makers presented strong new work that has benefitted from Wayne McGregor's mentoring role as The Royal Ballet's resident choreographer.   

Jacky Lansley is not the first to choreograph to Bach’s iconic Cello Suites, but her world première Guest Suites represents three years of research and dialogue with the music, strengthened by the contributions of artistic “guests” present at different stages of the work’s development.
