HGO’s Magic Flute will focus especially on the all-too-human environment of a child’s nursery, amidst the enchanted debris of broken dreams and childhood toys – a setting that, in the theatre’s intimate space, will allow our talented singers to explore the complex moral and emotional ambiguities at the heart of the opera. The wit of the text (superbly brought out in Stephen Fry’s new translation, which we will be the first to perform in England) and the beauty of the music will all be there to provide, we hope, a memorable experience for children of all ages – an entertainment about the family for the family.
