A classic fairy tale, told by the music of Humperdinck and explored in an inventive new production by Edward Dick.

Perhaps the most popular operatic fairy tale of them all, Hansel and Gretelis also one of the darkest. From a poor home in which hunger is an ever-present threat, brother and sister escape to the world of the forest, both idyllic and dangerous. There, they encounter supernatural forces such as the Sandman, the Dew Fairy and, most frightening of all, the Witch.

In the dizzying excitement of the Witch’s Ride and the serene beauty of the children’s evening prayer, Humperdinck’s music magically evokes the contrasting worlds of the story, whilst this contemporary take on a classic story reveals the perils of growing up!

Sung in English with English titles
